The Theatre Royal Bath will host one of the most loved musicals of all time, Lionel Bart’s Oliver!

The show takes to the stage from Tuesday 12 to Saturday 16 September thanks to Bath Light Operatic Group (BLOG), who make a welcome return to the stage after their recent critically acclaimed productions of Mack & Mabel, Shrek The Musical and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Oliver! tells the story of the workhouse boy who dared to ask for more; who runs away and becomes one of Fagin’s gang of street urchins; who tries to pick a pocket or two, but gets caught. As Nancy risks everything to save him, Oliver is reunited with his true family.

The musical is based on Charles Dickens’s novel, Oliver Twist, and features some of his most iconic characters including Mr Bumble, the sinister Sowerberrys, the Artful Dodger, the conniving but charismatic Fagin, brutal Bill Sikes and warm-hearted Nancy.

The creative team behind the production is led by director Tristan Carter, musical director Matthew Finch and choreographer Lizzie Andrews.

The cast features 35 adults from Bath and the surrounding area, and 44 children, who are divided into two sets sharing the experience of performing across the run. They are joined by Doris, the English Bull Terrier, making her debut as Bill Sikes’ sidekick, Bullseye.

The title role of Oliver! is shared by Charlie Alonso and Jack Parsonage, both aged ten. Alonso attends St John’s Catholic Primary School in Bath and has performed with Curtain Up Theatre School since he was four years old. Parsonage attends St Mary’s Primary School in Timsbury and has performed with BLOG since he was six years old.

The role of the Artful Dodger is shared by William Millard and James Flintoff, both aged 13. Millard attends Ralph Allen School in Bath and has performed with Curtain Up Theatre School since he was five years old. Flintoff attends Beechen Cliff School in Bath and has performed with BLOG since he was eight years old.
